The Electricity Reality Check
A standard water dispenser uses a compressor to chill water and an element to boil it 24/7. This constant heating and cooling cycle can add anywhere from RM 15 to RM 40 to your monthly TNB bill depending on the model's energy star rating and how often the hot water is pulled.
1. Traditional Tank Models
These units store purified water in an internal stainless steel reservoir (usually 3L to 5L). They boil and chill the water stored inside so it's ready the second you press the button.
Drawback: Bulkier design. If you finish the entire tank of cold water, you must wait 20-30 minutes for the newly filtered batch to chill.
2. Modern Tankless Models
Tankless units are ultra-slim. They only filter and heat water exactly when you press the button using extreme flash-heating elements. There is no stored water inside the machine.
Drawback: Because water passes through tightly wound heating coils in real-time, the flow rate (the speed at which water comes out of the nozzle) is noticeably slower than tank models.
